Good Willsmith<\/strong> is a free music trio from Chicago composed of Natalie Chami (aka TALsounds<\/strong>) and Hausu Mountain<\/strong> founders Doug Kaplan and Max Allison. Snake Person Generation<\/strong><\/em> features live-in-the-studio sessions from two periods of the band’s existence: an extended improvisation that predates The Honeymoon Workbook<\/strong><\/em> LP (Umor Rex, 2014), and four miniature pieces recorded in advance of Good Willsmith<\/strong>‘s east coast tour in Summer 2015.<\/p>\n

Side A’s “Real Wet Feet Get Real Wet” finds Chami and Allison drifting together through a series of slow harmonic shifts as they layer the stereo spread with interlaced synth lines and low-end oscillator drones. Kaplan focuses on looping and manipulating the playback of children’s vinyl records, spewing disembodied dialogue into a thickening cloud of Chami’s vocal phrases. Side B compresses the band’s tone-disfiguring improv tactics into surges of maniacal noise texture, presented as discrete takes without overdubs. Kaplan’s alien guitar work tethers the sessions to some conception of a noise-rock power trio, seasoned by jam band fever dreams and no-wave randomization. Allison builds loping drum machine rhythms and Chami howls into the abyss, as the two of them exchange peals of corrupted synthesis (and stories of their dreams).<\/p>\n
